I am going through the Rolling Stone Top 500 albums of all time list. I am cheating a bit by starting at 100 and working my way to number one.

Even if you do not agree with the RS rankings or my numeric grades below, it is a fun list because it exposes you to some albums that might be outside of your usual listening genre that are worth a listen. I am up to number 74 on the list and these are my findings so far:

100  The Zombies, 'Odessey and Oracle'
    Ok record. "C"
99   Sly and the Family Stone, 'There's a Riot Goin' On'
    Not a big fan. "C-"
98  Elvis Costello, 'This Year's Model'                         
    Song good rhythm and songwriter "C+"
97  Bob Dylan, 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'
    Some classic songs, but not the most showy record "B-"
96  The Who, 'Tommy'
    Music was good, but I was not a fan of the whole rock opera story. Could have
    been a single disc instead of two.

95  Miles Davis, 'Bitches Brew'
    Maybe it was when I listened to it, but it produced headaches.

94  Hank Williams, '40 Greatest Hits'
    Ol Hank seems like a bit of a jerk. Not a bad writer. "C"
93  Prince "Sign o' the times
    Not my thing. "D"
92  Buddy Holly "20 Golden Greats"
    Some classics. "C+"    
91  Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
    Some decent ditties "C"
90  Stevie Wonder "Talking Book"
    First time I heard this album. Not bad. "C+"

    Best album on the list so far. Energy, songwriting, rebellious spirit. "A-"

    Another classic album. Some great songs, but a little too long, self endulged. "B+"
86  Bruce Springsteen "Born in the USA"
    Decent. "B-"
85  Aretha Franklin "Lady Soul"
    Smooth singing "B"
84  Aretha Franklin "I never loved a man the way I loved you"
    Even better "B+"
83  Jimi Hendrix Experience "Axis: Bold as Love"
    Good parts, not so good parts. "B-"
82  Neil Young "Harvest"
    A classic album. "B+"
81  The Clash "The Clash"
    Ok. "C"
80  John Lennon "Imagine"
    Ok. "C"
79  Led Zeppelin "Led Zeppelin II"
    Not my favourite Zeppelin album, but still good. "B-"
78  Otis Redding "Otis Blue"
    Pretty good "B-"
77  AC/DC "Back in Black"
    Not a big AC/DC fan. Some classics here though "C+"
76  Prince and the Revolution "Purple Rain"
    When Doves Cry is a good song. "C+"
